Waiting Room-Winter2022

Waiting Room

By Diane Flacks

Directed by Maureen Dwyer
Produced by Michelle Spanik

What are you willing to risk to save a life?

A doctor embarks on a ground-breaking medical experiment despite the objections of his colleagues. Meanwhile, a couple are torn about whether the doctor has what it takes to save their baby. This is a play about life in the waiting room of a major children’s hospital. This is a play about medical compassion and risk. This is a play about families who find the will to keep going. This is a play about the needs of the heart and the extremes of medicine. This is a play about breaking the rules. This is a play about hope.

Maureen Dwyer – Director
Waiting Room” is the 4th show Maureen Dwyer has been blessed to direct for Theatre Burlington (“Hilda’s Yard”, “Strangers Among Us”, and “Beauty Queen of Leenane”), and she is so appreciative to work with her ‘design dream team’, Michelle Spanik and Tricia Ward, as well as an incredible cast and crew! So glad we got beyond COVID and lockdowns to bring this beautiful show to an audience!

Director’s Notes:
“Waiting Room” is a play about parents who have a sick child, and who want to try to make the best choices for her.  It is also about a brilliant doctor who is facing a debilitating disease, and fighting, against all odds, to try to stop it. But more so, it is a play about the power of intuition and heart over medical assertion.  It is a play about trusting maternal instincts above all else.  And it is a play about HOPE; “…That perches in the soul, and sings the tune without the words, and never stops at all.” If we have learned anything over this Pandemic, it is to never lose hope….

Jennifer Graham – Chrissie
Jen has been performing in local theatre for nearly 20 years. Jen is tickled pink to be back on stage after the Covid pause. Waiting Room marks her third show with Theatre Burlington.

Past productions include Steel Magnolias at the Hamilton Players Guild, Lady Windemere’s Fan at DLT, and Barefoot in the Park at Theatre Burlington.

Connor McGrath – Jeremy
This is Connor’s first show with Burlington Theatre. He is happy to be able to apply his schooling into the hobby he loves. He has been truly blessed to share the stage with such wonderful actors (who made his job considerably easier) and sincerely hopes you enjoy the show.

Matthew Willson (2 t’s 2 l’s) – Dr Andre Malloy
This one’s for Thatcher

Kelly Kimpton – Dr. Melissa De Angelo
Kelly was last seen as Maureen in TB’s The Beauty Queen of Leenane right before all theatres went dark for two long years. She is thrilled to be a part of live theatre again and thankful to the audience for welcoming us back. Some of her previous credits include Cora in DLT’s Calendar Girls and Clairee in the Players Guild production of Steel Magnolias.

Martha Christianson – Brenda
Martha is so pleased to be back performing with Theatre Burlington. Her first Burlington show, Breaking the Code where Martha received the award for best supporting actress at Western Ontario Drama League.  Selected/favourite stage credits include “Monstrous Invisible”, with Reaching Symmetry/Theatre Aquarius, “The Memory of Water”, with The Hamilton Players’ Guild, and “My Matisse” (Piccadilly Circus)

Martha also loves comedy, and having studied at The Second City Training Centre, she greatly enjoyed performing with Vancouver Film School’s sketch writers showcase team, and in several comedic short films and theatrical productions. A semi retired pro actor, and producer, Martha is grateful to be back working with our award winning producer, Marvellous Michelle Spanik, and her dream cast and crew.

Jeanette Wilkinson – Dr Ayaan Awaale Guleed
After co-producing and directing the Ben and Noah show for the last 20 years, Jeanette is happy to be making her Theatre Burlington debut with this amazing cast and crew. Her performance is dedicated to the memory of Mama Bear, her very own Dr. Ayaan.
